WA’s South West is foodie country - and the prospect of our famous local gourmet food and produce has attracted top level chef Luke Wakefield to take up the position of head chef at the soon-to-be-opened Small’s Bar in Eaton.

Luke’s career as a chef has been fuelled by his passion for seeking out local food and the best small-scale producers in the country.

He has moved back to WA for the role after spending the last 6 years as head chef at a number of Victoria’s best quality restaurants. Prior to this he held senior chef roles in a number of popular WA eateries such as Moore and Moore and Sentinel Bar and Grill.

“I am excited to be exploring the South West and all it has to offer,” Luke said.

“I love growing my own produce. I enjoy the process of watching it grow and nurturing it.”

Familiar with the challenges associated with farming and small scale production, Luke believes in approaching produce with respect.

“I am committed to seeking out genuinely passionate and lesser known small scale producers, people who love what they do,” he said.

“If a producer is excited about something they have to offer, there is a good chance I will be.”

Small’s Bar Manager Michael Bovell said the venue would focus on promoting the South West’s world class range of local food and beverages.

“I’ve lived here all my life, and I didn’t even know some of this stuff existed. It’s the best produce in the world. We want to help those suppliers and farmers get the word out about what they do.”

Small’s Bar is now just weeks away from opening its doors.
